Regional Australia Institute Housing Summit - Feb 2024

The Regional Australia Institute are hosting an upcoming summit 9Feb2024 exploring the issues of regional housing, details at https://www.regionalaustralia.org.au/EventDetail?EventKey=NRHS24 .

Sites like Kenmore represent exemplar projects for reconsideration in the face of housing pressures. We'll be attending to see what pressure can be applied for sites like it to be considered as part of the solution landscape.

We've posed the following statement for consideration as a submission from the floor:

There are dormant assets suitable for consideration in Social and Affordable housing, which also present training opportunities to keep heritage skills viable in trades like carpentry. Sites like Kenmore Hospital in Goulburn present significant opportunities for private-public partnership investment that can refurbish precious heritage assets and provide training/live-on-site options for emerging trades via apprenticeship pathways. Ideally, if the problem of retrofit of renewable energy (solar/battery) and its role in serving strata needs can be solved, it addresses longstanding issue of making solar available for rental populations, something we've been grappling with at SanStrata as an emerging social impact venture. See https://kenmorecanbemore.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CR/overview for project context. A good candidate for ACT/NSW Govt collaboration, given Goulburn's emerging role as affordable housing area for Canberra commuters. Needs jurisdictional collaboration focus, not silos.
